Some Work and Some Play
Made in 96 hours for GMTK Game Jam 2025 (you can rate the game here). Recommended to play in full screen.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,
All play and no work makes Jack a mere toy.
Then how about some work and some play?
After months of failing to find any jobs due to the incident, Jack gets hired by Amir Toys Inc. His job is simple: connecting parts together to make pieces for toys. But after repeating the same process over and over without any breaks, his ENERGY drains quickly... Luckily, he can replenish his energy by playing his GameThing™ on the job, just so long as his boss doesn't find out!
How to Play
- Move the hand with your mouse. Note that the hand will not immediately follow the mouse when Jack is working, and the hand's speed will be limited depending on how much ENERGY Jack has and how much time has passed since his last BOOST.
- Watch your ENERGY bar, as when it gets too low, Jack will fall asleep and will be fired.
- Drag parts to each other to connect them. Drag them to the FAULTY section if they are faulty. Press the NEXT button to move the conveyor belt forward early.
- Your energy will decrease over time and will decrease more depending on how much the hand moves and grabs parts/pieces.
- You will work from 9 AM to 5 PM (4 real-life minutes) and be paid based on your overall performance throughout the day (parts that are left on the conveyor belt at the end of the day are not factored in). You make ๐ช20 for each finished wheel, lose ๐ช10 for each loose wheel part, make ๐ช5 for each correctly identified faulty wheel part, and lose ๐ช10 for each false faulty wheel part. If you don't make enough money in a day (indicated by the (+๐ช) on the top left), Jack will be fired. Quota for each day:
- Day 1: ๐ช320
- Day 2: ๐ช440
- Day 3: ๐ช585
- Day 4: ๐ช715
- Day 5: ๐ช915
- Day 6 and up: Did anyone even get past day 5 yet?
- You can take out the GameThing by pressing "Show GT". Hold down P to turn it on or off, and press space to press the button in the middle, which will make the player jump. Every time your score increases, Jack will receive a BOOST of energy. Be mindful of how long you play, as the GameThing has a limited battery life, with its power indicator shown in the "i" in "Thing".
- At the end of the day, you can buy upgrades from the shop. Some refresh daily, some are permanent, and some are upgradeable.
- On BOSS DAYS (Fridays), make sure to not have the GameThing out while the boss is present, or else Jack will be fired.
Known issues
- When holding a part over another part on the conveyor belt, the held part sometimes gets detached from the hand while still following its movements (This can also make the part not leave the conveyor belt). Releasing the part will make it go back to normal.
- On the web version, the music pitch/speed can return to normal after some time.
- Sometimes, the obstacles in Spinny Wheel can shake. Their movement speed is also sometimes too fast/slow, though the time between each is consistent.
- One of the Boss's dialogue is missing a period.
- The outer wheel part can go through the conveyor belt's bottom edge.
- The value of the false faulty parts is not shown.
- The fired message for when you get caught by the Boss does not fit on one line.
- Parts sometimes can spawn on screen.
- The cost for leveling up the battery life from Lvl 3 to Lvl 4 is 5000 instead of 10000.
- On the Windows version, the player's mouse cursor sometimes is visible.
- On the Windows version, the font_8.tres and font_16.tres files are generated unintentionally.
- On the Windows version, the window shows up incredibly small initially.

You did a great job on the graphics and presentation
Love the art style, love the music and the reference.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy indeed.
With that said, it'd be better if the days can be shortened or else it'll be More Work and Less Play.
Overall, it's the kind of game you can play during a coffee break or wind down with at night. Visuals and music go hand in hand as well.
Cooool! but days should be shorter, it resembles work too much ^^
I can't lie this is the best visuals in any game jam game ive seen today
Compensation in energy for the time taken to play GameThing might be too little. Distinguishing between the normal and the faulty ones might be difficult, maybe add sound effects when the wheel could not be assembled.
There's a black square floating in place of the cursor. Slight delay between the hand and the cursor even with full energy, but mostly negligible. Don't know if it's intentional, but the hand does not grab the objects at a correct position when at low energy, like in this picture, the hand is supposed to be holding the gear, but there is a gap between the hand and the gear's position.![]()
(Not sure if you can see this picture or not)
